Spell Details

Causes the earth to adhere to your target's feet, preventing them from moving for up to 48 secs (2 ticks @L3 to 8 ticks @L14). Many other spells which immobilize targets are informally referred to as "Root" spells, including Enstill, Immobilize, Grasping Roots, Hungry Earth, etc. All of these spells have common qualities, such as randomly breaking early, being randomly broken sometimes by direct-damage spells, and causing rooted behavior in NPCs. Spells which reduce movement speed somewhat, but not necessarily completely, are called Snare spells. Snare spells are generally more reliable, longer lasting and do not change the hate behavior of NPCs. Root spells lend to a strategy of solo casters called "root rotting", where a caster roots the enemy, casts one or more damage-over-time spells on them, and waits for them to die. Nukes are more compatible with snare spells, as they do not cause them to break like root.
